Guys, if you're ready to pop the question, consider
pre-recording your proposal! This not only gives you the chance to say
exactly what you want (you can edit if it doesn't come out right the
first time) but it gives her a keepsake of that special moment! You can
record just your voice, or videotape it and then play it for her at the
perfect time. This is a great compliment to creating the perfect
romantic setting!

If you're showing a video as part of a presentation,
consider the sound! We've actually seen presentations where a lot of
money was spent creating a promotional video; they've secured a DVD
player and projector to show it, but forgot to ask if there is a sound
system in the room. So now, you're watching a video, that you know has
sound, but you can't hear it. This is easily avoidable by planning
ahead. If you've hired a company to set up a PA system or there's one
built in to the room, chances are, there's a place for you to plug in -
ask the A/V staff if there's a place to plug in and what kind of cables
you'll need.

Non-profit organizations: Think radio & TV when
promoting your events! Broadcast media is required to set aside a
certain amount of time for public service. Consider creating a public
service announcement and cultivating relationships with local broadcast
media to get some FREE air-time! Don't forget, you can also use the
public service announcement on your website! The best part is, thanks to
email, once you've created your psa, you can keep sending it out without
any additional media or shipping charges!

If you use your video camera regularly, a tripod is a
GREAT investment! They give the camera person has the chance to be in
the video, help to avoid fatigue from holding the camera up constantly
and when you watch the video back, you'll see less of the shaking and
fast movements that can cause that "seasick" feeling! Tripods are also
adjustable, so it gives you more height for when you're trying to get
that perfect shot with a crowd of people in front of you! And the really
good news is they're pretty inexpensive!

If you're a business owner, don't forget that your
voicemail greeting is often the first impression for a potential client,
so use it! Instead of just saying you're not available, invite them to
check out your website or tell them about a special you've got going.
This is a FREE MARKETING TOOL! Just be sure to sound professional.
Remember, you can re-record as many times as you like to get rid of the
long pauses and "uh's". If you'd rather have a professional voice talent
do it, we can help!

Voice recordings of those you care about are
priceless; even if you don't realize it today! Think about the
difference between the way you sound today, versus when you were a kid!
Don't you wish you could go back and listen? My dad made me a tape
before he passed away. If I didn't have it, I wouldn't remember what his
voice sounded like. My point is KEEP ALL OF YOUR RECORDINGS! You can use
these recordings in a thousand different ways, but even if you never use
them for anything, there will come a day when you'll be thrilled you at
least have the recording to listen to. And for anyone who edits, KEEP
YOUR ORIGINAL RAW FILES! THERE IS GOLD IN OUTTAKES! We've learned this
the hard way. Plus, I LOVE making blooper CD's!

If you're going to have a friend or relative videotape
your special event, we urge you to take the time to discuss what you
want with them. Using a friend or relative is a great way to save money,
but we've transferred a lot of video tapes where half of the wedding
ceremony is cut off or the tape stops right before the birthday boy/girl
blows out the candles, etc. You have one chance to capture these special
memories. Make it count!

IT IS POSSIBLE TO RECORD YOUR VOICEMAIL
MESSAGES TO CD!
We've done it for clients who wanted them for
sentimental or legal purposes.

The settings you use to scan your pics vary when using
them for different purposes. For example, the best settings for
digitizing photos (for use in DVD slideshows, digital photo albums,
etc.) are not the same as the best settings for reprinting photos. If
you're going to use pics for a DVD slideshow, you'd want a minimum
setting of 720x480. This is standard video resolution. Anything lower
may give you problems. Scanning can take a lot of time, so make sure to
do it right the first time!

Wedding season's coming, so here's a VERY IMPORTANT
TIP! If there is no microphone for the person who officiates the
ceremony and the bride & groom, chances are you won't be able to hear
any of it on your wedding video. Arranging for a microphone is an
affordable expense and one you'll be thankful you had when watching the
video of your special day for years to come!

This tip is in answer to a question posted on our
Facebook Group page.
Q: How long do speakers last? I have one that sounds like a bad
trombone.
A: The simple answer is that if you take care of your
speakers, you could get decades of use out of them. I have a pair of
Radio Shack speakers I received as a gift in 1978 and they still work.
There are things that could damage a speaker: extreme temperatures,
moisture or over driving them. Over driving or a tear in the speaker
could certainly lend itself to the trombone-like sound you're hearing.

To determine if your 8mm film is damaged, try the
following:
1. Smell it - a strong chemical odor may indicate
damage.
2. If the film is curled, as you look at it edge-on, you may have a
problem.
3. Bend a small portion of the film, as you would fold a piece of paper,
to see if it's brittle.
4. If your film sticks together, it's probably not transferrable.
March 25, 2009
Never point a microphone at a speaker or stand in front
of a speaker when using a microphone...this causes that annoying and
sometimes painful "feedback."
